The project "Protection to Community Engagement; Managing Nepal’s Youngest Transborder National Park" implemented by Zoological Society of London (ZSL) through implementing partner Environment and Rural Development Centre, Banke. The project will strengthen the status of tigers and tiger prey in Banke National Park while improving the socio-economic wellbeing of residents in two buffer zone communities, strengthening the relationship between parks and people. ENRUDEC, Banke is currently inviting applications from qualified Nepali citizens committed to delivering results for the following positions:

1. Job Position: Program Associate -2 Positions

Reports to: Program Officer (PO)/Field Program Officer (FPO)

Contract Duration: Fixed-term contract (July 2026-March 2027)

Location: ZSL Western Terai Complex offices 

Required Qualifications and Competencies:

Knowledge/Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline (Forestry, Environmental science/management, wildlife, natural resource management or other relevant disciplines) 

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with a good track record in program and project implementation and/or management

  • Basic knowledge and skills in biodiversity conservation and sustainable livelihood program

  • Good socio-economic research and facilitation skills 

  • Basic understanding of the socio-political context of Nepal, specifically of the western lowland region

  • Familiarity with the relevant policies and laws regarding communities’ use of natural resources, tenure system, forestry, and wildlife conservation motivators 

  • Excellent English proficiency in oral and written communication, including a demonstrated track record in content creation and ability to communicate effectively.

  • Proficiency in both written and spoken Nepali language is required

  • Skills in the use of computer applications, advanced Excel or any data management software

  • Skills in workshop facilitation, working with community people of diverse backgrounds

Additional Requirements

  • Willingness to travel within the region, sometimes at short notice (the Programme Associate will be required to travel frequently).

  • Computer literacy in MS Office packages.

  • Experience in database management and analysis.

  • Excellent organizational and networking skills.

  • Team-oriented attitude and ability to work independently.

  • Capacity to work effectively under time pressure and ability to multitask.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support project team in the preparation of the field implementation plan for ongoing programs and projects in the BBS complex.

  • Support project team to collect and maintain data on human wildlife conflict and relief fund distribution.

  • Prepare a document on best practices/successful case stories from previous and ongoing projects and based on the results, provide recommendations on interventions of best livelihood schemes adopted.

  • With guidance from supervisor, carry out surveys/assessment to gather evidence to showcase the success and impact of project interventions, 

  • Actively support in organizing capacity building sessions for park officials, implementing partners and other key stakeholders.

  • Facilitate alternative livelihood groups meetings, and update beneficiaries/members data periodically and track the loan disbursement status

  • Support in maintain project database with disaggregated information of project beneficiaries.

  • Support project team in camera trap surveys, and take a lead in managing, organizing, and archiving camera trap data. 

  • Regular communication with HWCx champions and maintains database of HWC related information shared by champions in WhatsApp group and LUNA GPS.

  • Carry out any other activities assigned by supervisor.
