BEE-Group is an autonomous, independent, non-partisan, nonprofit, non-governmental organization (NGO). It was established in 2000 AD, registered in the District Administration Office, Banke, and affiliated with the Social Welfare Council, Nepal. It is serving for the protection and promotion of humanrights, environmental and biodiversity conservation, climate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction,  and supporting targeted communities for building access to quality education, health, and WASH services, livelihoods improvement, and community development. Since its establishment, it has been working on the rights-based approach to issues such as social justice, peace, environment, biodiversity, and sustainable livelihoods. It works to attain peace, development, and justice through people’s meaningful participation and a bottom-up approach to establishing an equitable, healthy, and self-reliant society by building a trustworthy reputation.

BEE-Group has been implementing the Climate Resilience Program of the Zurich Climate Resilience Alliance, Practical Action in Nepal. The climate resilience program implemented by the BEE-Group in partnership with Practical Action, and it covers Gulariya, Barbardiya Municipality of Babai River basin, Madhuwan, Rajapur Municipality, and Geruwa Rural Municipality of Bardiya district, Janaki Rural Municipality and Tikapur Municipality of Kailali district, along with Karnali River basin, and Dhangadhi sub-Metropolitan City of Kailali district, along with Mohana River basin.

The Climate Resilience Program focuses on climate-smart risk-informed development and embeds the Zurich-funded climate resilience program with other overarching projects that include “Resilience through Early warning system and Insurance Transfer” (RESIST), “Index-based flood Insurance” (IBFI), and strengthening and localization of the Multi-Hazard Early Warning system and Impact-based Forecasting in Sudurpaschim and Lumbini Province of Nepal. Climate Resilience Program is a cross-sector global collaboration between Zurich Insurance Groups, NGOs, and academia and contributes to the alliance with three overarching objectives: (i) increase funding for climate-smart risk-informed development to build flood and heat resilience (ii) strengthen policy at global, national, or sub-national level to support climate-smart risk-informed development to build flood and heat resilience (iii) improve flood and heat resilience practice. The overall objective of the Climate Resilience Program and its overarching project are as follows;

The overall Objectives of the program:

  1. Funding for climate-smart risk-informed development with a focus on flood and heat resilience is increased and equitably disbursed.

  2. Laws, Policies, Plans, and Strategies for climate-smart, risk-informed flood and heat resilience are implemented.

  3. Climate-smart, risk-informed flood resilience practice becomes “business as usual.”

Overall desired outcomes (ambitions) of this program:

  • Build ex-ante resilience of communities at risk of flood and heat impacts (prevent risk through enhanced adaptive capacity) by working together with decision-makers at all levels. 

  • Improve early warning and early action in advance of probable hazard risk (reduce the probability and volume of losses through anticipatory action).   

  • Enable people who experience livelihood losses due to floods and heat to recover quickly through compensation and/or insurance (avoid long-term erosion of resilience).  

BEE-Group is seeking a qualified, experienced, and self-motivated Social Mobilizer for the mentioned project and requests an application from potential candidates.

Position: Social Mobilizer 
No. of Requirements: One (6 Months, Possibility of Extension)
Duty Station: The position is field-based. However, the station is BEE-Group Field Office Dhangadhi SMC - 5, Kailali, district.

Job Summary:

The primary objective of this role is to lead the implementation of the field activities under the direct supervision of the project officer. Furthermore, the Social Mobilizer will be responsible for building the capacity of the Community Disaster Management Committee, task forces to carry out the vulnerability and capacity assessment, expansion of the small-scale mitigation promoting nature based solutions and advocacy for mainstreaming of disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation activities to the Palika's periodic plans, and enhancing the capacity of vulnerable communities to utilize early warning and index-based flood insurance.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Intermediate level completed in any discipline within 3 years of work experience, and 5 years for SLC in disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation.
