ROLE PURPOSE:
The Project Officer is responsible for supporting the effective planning, coordination, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of child-friendly education projects. The role ensures the quality delivery of child-centered, inclusive, and safe education interventions in alignment with organizational standards, donor requirements, and local education priorities.
The position plays a key role in strengthening child-friendly teaching and learning practices, promoting inclusive and protective school environments, supporting school systems, facilitating training and community engagement activities, and ensuring that project interventions contribute to improved access, participation, retention, well-being, and learning outcomes for children.
The role requires regular field engagement, close coordination with schools and local stakeholders, and adherence to safeguarding standards, organizational policies, and donor compliance requirements.
Description
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Program Implementation & Delivery
Implementation of project activities in line with approved work plans, budgets & donor requirements.
Ensure timely delivery of planned outputs and achievement of education targets.
Provide technical support on training, mentoring & follow ups to schools and teachers on child-friendly teaching-learning approaches, positive behavior for teaching and learning, inclusive education, child participation, safe learning environments and other cross cutting areas like GEDSI, climate, safeguarding.
Support schools in strengthening child-friendly classroom practices and inclusive learning environments for all children, including girls, children with disabilities, Dalit children and marginalized groups.
Contribute to the development and delivery of education related programs and customized learning packages in partnership with schools and local government entities.
Support the establishment and strengthening of School Management Committees (SMCs), Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs), on child friendly school management.
Support the establishment and strengthening of child clubs through training, capacity development to connect ward / RM level networks.
Support local authorities to improve child enrollment, attendance, retention, transition, and continuity of learning.
Coordinate with project team members to ensure effective delivery of project activities in schools and communities.
Coordinate with the Finance Coordinator on procurement, logistics, and distribution of education & child friendly learning materials.
Promote collaboration between schools and local stakeholders to improve learning outcomes.
Ensure children, parents, schools & communities are well-informed about project objectives, entitlements (benefits from project), and feedback channels.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor to support effective financial management of the organization.
Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement
Maintain regular coordination with local government education units, schools, and community organizations to ensure effective project implementation.
Ensure children, parents, schools & communities are well-informed about project objectives, entitlements, and feedback channels.
Coordinate closely with local government education units, school leadership, and community-based organizations to strengthen child-friendly school systems.
Support meaningful participation of children, child clubs, parents and communities in monitoring and feedback processes.
Maintain strong working relationships with head teachers, teachers, SMC, parents, and community leaders.
Facilitate community participation and engagement in education and child protection activities.
Participate in local coordination meetings, education forums, and stakeholder consultations as required.
Monitoring & Reporting
Regular monitoring of education activities like child-friendly education indicators and inclusive education practices to ensure quality standards, targets and accountability frameworks.
Conduct regular school visits to implement project activities, assess program progress, identify gaps and provide actionable feedback.
Collect, verify, and compile education-related data (enrollment, attendance, retention, safeguarding concerns, learning progress, etc.).
Prepare periodic progress reports including weekly, monthly, and quarterly updates for internal and donor reporting.
Support internal assessments, evaluations, development of case stories and donor reporting processes.
Compliance & Inclusive Programming
Ensure all program activities comply with organizational policies, donor guidelines, safeguarding concerns and government education policies.
Integrate inclusive and equitable approaches, including gender equality & disability inclusion, climate change and protection principles across all activities to ensure participation and safety of vulnerable and marginalized children.
Support implementation of grievance and accountability mechanisms at the community and school level.
Promote safe, inclusive, protective, and child-friendly learning environments.
Ensure project activities are inclusive, evidence-based, and responsive to local needs.
CHILD SAFEGUARDING:
The individual is required to uphold the organization’s zero-tolerance policy on child abuse and exploitation by ensuring the safety and well-being of children in all activities, promoting a child-safe environment, and promptly reporting any concerns or incidents in line with organizational procedures.
PSEAH (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment):
The individual is required to uphold the organization’s zero-tolerance policy on sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment by maintaining the highest standards of conduct, promoting a safe and respectful environment, and promptly reporting any concerns in line with organizational procedures.

REQUIRED ACADEMICS & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Development Studies, Social Sciences, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in education program implementation, preferably in child-friendly education, inclusive education, or child-centered development projects.
Experience working with schools and local governments in rural or remote areas.
Experience in child-centered pedagogy, inclusive education, or safeguarding programming, & teaching professional, teacher’s trainer is highly desirable.
Familiarity with Nepal’s education system, local governance structures & and child-friendly school approaches.
Good understanding of education quality standards, child safeguarding, child friendly education principles and inclusive education principles including cross-cutting experience in child protection, safeguarding, gender, disability, climate.
Good understanding of child friendly education principles, child safeguarding, and inclusive education approaches.
Strong report writing and documentation.
SKILLS:
Good communication skills in both English and Nepali (written and spoken).
Proficiency in MS Office and basic data management tools, MEL, PMC (project management cycle).
Good interpersonal, negotiation, and coordination skills.
High integrity, diverse cultural sensitivity and commitment to promote inclusive education principles.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Ability to work independently in remote field locations.
Good understanding and skilled in training, mentoring, child / youth engagement activities.
Preference will be given to candidates from the local community or project districts.
