Position Title: Communications Officer

Location: ViN Office, Kathmandu
Contract Duration: 2 Years (renewable based on performance and organizational needs)
Salary: NPR 35,000–40,000 per month (including benefits)

Volunteers Initiative Nepal (ViN) is a leading grassroots NGO dedicated to empowering marginalized communities through education, women's empowerment, health, youth development, environmental sustainability, disaster risk reduction, and volunteerism. For more than 20 years, ViN has connected local and international volunteers with communities across Nepal to create sustainable and lasting change.

We are seeking a passionate and motivated Communications Officer to join our vibrant team and help amplify ViN’s impact to audiences across Nepal and around the world.

What You'll Do: Your Role at ViN

As a Communications Officer, you will play a key role in shaping and sharing ViN's story. You will work closely with staff, volunteers, partners, sponsors, and community members to ensure that the impact of our programs is communicated effectively and professionally.

1. Storytelling & Content Creation

  • Collect inspiring stories, testimonials, photographs, and videos from ViN projects, volunteers, and beneficiaries.

  • Write and edit engaging blog articles, volunteer spotlights, project updates, annual report content, and newsletters.

  • Create compelling social media content for Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, YouTube, and other digital platforms.

  • Support documentation of program impact through interviews, case studies, success stories, and visual storytelling.

  • Assist in preparing communication materials for donors, sponsors, partners, and stakeholders.

2. Digital Communication & Outreach

  • Regularly update and manage ViN's website content to ensure information remains accurate and current.

  • Design attractive graphics, promotional materials, and digital content using tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar platforms.

  • Schedule, publish, and monitor social media content across all major channels.

  • Track engagement and provide recommendations to strengthen online outreach.

  • Respond to inquiries, comments, and messages professionally and in a timely manner.

3. Volunteer Recruitment & Engagement

  • Manage volunteer and internship inquiries received through email, social media, phone, and online platforms.

  • Assist with reviewing applications, scheduling interviews, and preparing orientation materials.

  • Communicate program information, logistical details, and pre-departure guidance to volunteers.

  • Support the onboarding process and help ensure volunteers have a positive and meaningful experience with ViN.

  • Assist in maintaining communication with alumni volunteers and supporters.

4. Partnership Development & Public Relations

  • Research and connect with universities, volunteer-sending organizations, networks, and partner institutions.

  • Assist in developing communication materials for partnerships, campaigns, fundraising initiatives, and events.

  • Contribute content for partner newsletters, websites, reports, and promotional materials.

  • Support media outreach and help strengthen ViN's public profile and visibility.

5. Database & Resource Management

  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of volunteers, interns, sponsors, donors, and partners.

  • Organize communication resources, photographs, videos, reports, and digital archives.

  • Ensure communication materials are properly stored and easily accessible for future use.

6. Strategic Communication

  • Support the development and implementation of ViN's communication and branding strategy.

  • Monitor trends and best practices in NGO communications, digital marketing, and volunteer engagement.

  • Propose innovative ideas to strengthen outreach, visibility, fundraising, and community engagement.

  • Participate actively in team meetings and contribute to organizational growth and continuous improvement.

Who We're Looking For Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, Media Studies, Development Studies, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field. Master's degree in a relevant field will be preferred.

Experience & Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • Strong Nepali communication skills are highly desirable.

  • Experience or strong interest in content writing, social media management, communications, public relations, or digital marketing.

  • Passion for community development, volunteerism, social justice, and youth empowerment.

  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Photography, videography, graphic design, video editing, or website management skills will be an added advantage.

  • Positive, proactive, creative, and solution-oriented mindset.
