The "Enhancing the functionality of the trans boundary Kamdi-Suhelwa complex for the management of dispersing tiger populations, through a community-centered conservation approach" (ITHCP Phase IV) project is a multi-year project launched by Zoological Society of London (ZSL) Nepal in collaboration with Environment and Rural Development Centre, Banke invites applications from qualified Nepali citizens committed to delivering results for the following positions:

1. Job Position: Project Officer - 1 Position

Duty station: Kamdi Corridor, Rapti Sonari `Rural Municipality area.

Duration: One year with possibility of extension throughout the project period

Required Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Wildlife, Environmental Science/Management, Natural Resource Management or other relevant discipline with 4 years of experience in the conservation sector (Master’s degree in relevance subject is highly desirable)

  • Demonstrate track record in the implementation of human-wildlife conflict mitigation interventions, including community-based approaches. 

  • This position requires strong demonstrable skills in data analysis and monitoring, critical thinking, as well as good organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • The position requires attention to detail and the ability to keep accurate records to maintain the integrity of information.

  • Basic understanding of environmental and social safeguards in project implementation or willingness to learn

  • Excellent commands of English and Nepali languages.

  • Professional skill in the Microsoft Office package

  • Excellent cross-cultural and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with local communities, Indigenous Peoples, government officials, Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), and NGO staff.

  • Strong communication, coordination, and facilitation skills.

  • Willingness to work in a field site 

  • Candidate with a Two-wheeler (motorbike) driving license.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Prepare a quarterly implementation plan of ENRUDEC in coordination with Senior Programme Officer and as per annual work plan and take a lead for the implementation of the project activities as per the plan.  

  • Track progress against quarterly plan and coordinate with concerned stakeholders for the successful implementation of the project activities

  • Maintain database with supporting documents to ensure evidence-based reporting 

  • Take a lead in the documentation of success stories and lesson learnt for adaptive management

  • Ensure that environment and social safeguarding requirements are met while implementing project activities

  • Support project team in carrying out various ecological and social researches related to the project. 

  • Worked closely with Local Government, Divisional/Sub-Divisional Forest Office, Community Forest User’s Groups, Conservation partners, and other stakeholders to ensure the implementation of Human Wildlife Conflict (HWC) mitigation interventions. 

  • Conduct awareness campaigns and training on different conflict mitigation techniques. 

  • Work closely with CFUGs to enhance community resilience in agriculture via implementing climate-resilient agriculture technologies. 

  • Identify potential sites for construction and installation of various HWC mitigation interventions  and assess the impact of such measures 

  • Work in collaboration with project partners and community mobilisers to provide technical advice and guidance to maximize the use of local resources at the community and household level for HWC mitigation intervention, installation, and construction. 

  • Facilitate the targeted community people/groups for conducting meetings/workshops and social audits.

  • Regular supervision and monitoring of project interventions, ensuring adherence to project timelines and quality standards and donor requirements.

  • Support communities via establishing community banking cooperatives to promote livelihood and community wellbeing. 

  • Assist the project team in organizing monitoring visits (central/regional, district) involving different stakeholders as per need.

  • Conduct regular field visits to monitor field activities and provide technical backstopping to the community and take corrective actions as necessary.

  • Make regular field visits to collect data verification and support to follow M&E system at field level. 

  • Support Senior- Programme Officer in preparation of periodic progress reports and event reports

2. Job Position: Social Mobilizer - 1 Position

Duty station: Kamdi Corridor, Rapti Sonari Rural Municipality area.

Duration: One year with possibility of extension throughout the project period

Required Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Minimum Bachelor's level in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Management, Arts, or any relevant field with a minimum of 3 years’ experience or intermediate (+2) level with 4 years’ experience in community development and conservation sectors.

  • Basic understanding of environmental and social safeguards in project implementation or willingness to learn

  • Able to travel and stay, spend time in the community. 

  • Excellent coordination and relation-building skills in community level 

  • Excellent Communication & Facilitation skills 

  • Able to communicate effectively in the local language 

  • Sensitive to Gender based violence, child protection and child safeguarding issues.

  • Basic knowledge of MS Office Package 

  • Ability of report writing, case study and success story.

  • A candidate with a Two-wheeler (motorbike) driving license is preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Project Officer to implement the planned activities in the project sites as per the approved workplan and Detailed Implementation Guideline.

  • Coordination with LG/Ward, CFUGs for smooth operations of the project for smooth operations of the project

  • Work closely with CFUG to select HHs to implement project activities 

  • Facilitate and provide logistic support to organize meetings/workshops and training sessions Develop case/success stories, including media reports, with the close coordination of the Project Officer.

  • Ensure a good relationship with stakeholders and build networks with community-level stakeholders.

  • Ensure to collect primary data after implementation of project activities as per the data collection templates.
