Child Safeguarding Level 3 – the responsibilities of the post holder may require having a regular contact with or access to children or young people because the position holder works in the implementation of the country programme and are visiting programme frequently.

The Information and Communications Coordinator will support the flood response operation by ensuring the timely collection, verification, consolidation, and dissemination of accurate field information. The position will function as a critical link between field teams and the media and communications team in the Country Office to facilitate quality reporting, and effective public communications. The position will ensure that all information and communications products adhere to organizational safeguarding, consent, dignity, and media standards.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Generate, compile, analyze, and consolidate information for daily Situation Reports (SitReps) and other operational updates.
  • Collect and verify response data from field teams, partners, and relevant stakeholders to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Maintain organized records of response activities, beneficiary reach, key achievements, challenges, and emerging needs.
  • Gather and document high-quality photos, videos, beneficiary stories, testimonials, and human-interest content showcasing response efforts and community impact.
  • Ensure field information is collected using approved tools, formats, and reporting templates.
  • Support the Media & Communications Coordinator with developing, updating and finalising FAQs, key messages and briefing materials.
  • Verify information from multiple sources before sharing with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure all communications materials, photos, videos, interviews, and stories meet organizational safeguarding, consent, dignity, and media standards.
  • Verify that informed consent has been obtained and documented prior to collecting or sharing personal information, images, or testimonials.
  • Ensure sensitive information is handled appropriately and in accordance with data protection requirements and SCI’s communications principles
  • Ensure adherence to SCI’s branding and visibility standards for all materials in the field office
  • Promote ethical storytelling practices that respect the rights, privacy, and dignity of affected individuals and communities.
  • Participate in field coordination meetings and provide timely information updates to response teams.
  • Support the field office technical coordinators in developing SBC materials for WASH promotion activities in consultation with the PDQI department
  • Represent SCI in relevant cluster meetings, technical working groups, and coordination forums as assigned by the Field Operations Lead.
  • Share project updates, challenges, and achievements with relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure data and the information from the field are regularly updated to the relevant teams and departments in the Country Office.
  • Comply with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATION:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ (2 years for GSI ) experience in communications, humanitarian response, information management, or related areas with the Master degree in communications/journalism/social science or relevant areas or 5 years ( 3 years for GSI group) of experience in communications, humanitarian response, information management, or related areas with bachelor’s degree in communications/journalism/social science or relevant areas

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting field data during humanitarian or disaster response operations.
  • Proven experience developing communication content, including stories, photographs, videos, and situation reports. Strong reporting, facilitation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to travel extensively to flood-affected and remote locations.
  • Fluency in English and Nepali, both written and spoken
  • Ability to collect and verify information under tight deadlines.
  • Commitment to the aims and principles of SCI in particular, a good understanding of the SCI mandate and child focus and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin our support
  • Ability to establish good working relationships and positively contribute to a team
  • Ability to work in a stressful and changing environment with limited resources
