Vacancy Announcement: 

The Gurkha Welfare Trust Nepal is the field arm of The Gurkha Welfare Trust UK, a charitable Trust established and registered in the UK in 1969, and working particularly for the ex-Gurkha Veterans and their communities across Nepal.

We are seeking applications from suitably qualified, committed, and eligible individuals for the following positions: 

1. Project Manager Specialist Outreach Camp (PMSC), based at this Trust’s Headquarters in Pokhara.
2. Senior Medical Information and System Assistant (SMISA), based at this Trust’s Headquarters in Pokhara.
3. Mobile Health Practitioner (MHP), based at any of our Area Welfare Centre (AWC) across Nepal.

1.PROJECT MANAGER SPECIALIST OUTREACH CAMP

Key Responsibilities:

The Project Manager Specialist Outreach Camp (PMSC) holds overall responsibility for the end-toend management of the Specialist Outreach Camp, ensuring the successful planning, execution, and follow-up of all activities to deliver efficient, safe, and compassionate healthcare services in accordance with GWT’s standards and values. Key duties include leading camp planning, coordination, and oversight; managing logistics, staff, and resources to ensure operational excellence; enforcing compliance with clinical and organisational protocols, particularly safeguarding vulnerable individuals; cultivating a transparent and collaborative team culture; maintaining accurate records and monitoring systems for evaluation and reporting; and proactively engaging with
NGOs and INGOs to prevent duplication, share resources, and incorporate best practices from outreach initiatives across Nepal.

Essential and Desirable Criteria:

  •  At least bachelor’s degree in management, Social Work, Sociology, Medical field or another relevant equivalent degree with a minimum of five years of relevant work experience.
  • A degree in a medical-related field or experience working in medical sector will be an added advantage.
  •  The ability to interact effectively and respectfully with people from diverse cultural backgrounds is essential.
  •  Prior experience working with medical camps in remote areas of Nepal is highly desirable.
  •  Excellent communication, liaison, and coordination skills are mandatory.
  •  A strong commitment to understanding and addressing the needs of clients or patients is required.
  •  Strong IT proficiency is essential, including demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office applications (specifically Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and ideally Photoshop).
  •  Proven leadership capability with experience guiding teams and managing projects is necessary.
  •  Must be a collaborative team player with the ability to work effectively in group settings and build positive working relationships.

2. SENIOR MEDICAL INFORMATION AND SYSTEM ASSISTANT: 

Key Responsibilities:

The Senior Medical Information & System Assistant (SMISA) is primarily responsible for Medical Data management as well as customisation and updates of GWT’s medical electronic record and information system (Currently PatientSource). This includes, but is not limited to: onboarding and offboarding as well as editing staff roles on PS; developing and adapting case note formats for clinical care, building and adjusting SQL reports and frontend reports on PS, answering any medical data
queries, using SQL queries and/or PowerBI or similar data analytics systems, providing routine data to SMT and i-Hub, as well as monitoring medical KPIs, supporting QIA projects and analysing medical activity data regularly, feeding back findings to the medical leadership team.

Essential and Desirable Criteria:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any medical field and master’s degree in any relevant medical/management or IT discipline.
  • At least one year of experience in frontline healthcare; a basic understanding of medical research.
  • Current unrestricted registration with the relevant Medical Professional Council.
  • Certification in SQL coding and competence in DAX language for PowerBI and proven experience of using SQL and PowerBI for medical data analysis.
  • Sound IT skills (proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint as a minimum).
  •  Comprehensive knowledge and skills in data management.
  •  Prior Experience working with a medical information system / Electronic medical record will be an added advantage.
  •  Working knowledge and application of relevant Country legislation governing medical practice.

3. MOBILE HEALTH PRACTITIONER: 

Key Responsibilities:

The Mobile Health Practitioner (MHP) is responsible for the management of the basic clinic facilities in the AWCs, including consulting, examinations, procedures for visiting pensioners and
dispensing medicine under the guidance of GWT doctors; and home visits to pensioners within the AOR of the AWCs. S/He will particularly visit vulnerable pensioners identified from each AWC and provide comprehensive assessments and primary care treatment.

Essential and Desirable Criteria:

  •  Must have qualified as Health Assistant/Staff Nurse (PCL level) as a minimum with at least 3 years of work experience in GoN/Private hospitals/Health Posts/Primary Healthcare centres.
  • Must be registered with Nepal Health Professional Council or Nepal Nursing Council.
  • Sound knowledge and skills in basic medicine and pharmacology.
  • Working knowledge and application of relevant country legislation governing medical practice.
  • Experience of working in remote areas with Government/International organisations preferrable.
  •  Highly desirable if holding a valid motorcycle license or is prepared to get one.
  • Good written communication skills in English and Nepali.
  •  Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

REMUNERATION

The Project Manager Special Outreach Camp position falls in EG5L1 in our pay structure, with a basic monthly salary of NPR 152,282. The Senior Medical Information and System Assistant and Mobile
Health Practitioner positions fall under EG4L1 and EG3L1, with basic monthly salaries of NPR 120,612 and NPR 76,571, respectively. Current salary is applicable for internal candidates transferring level.
All other benefits and facilities will be provided in accordance with GWT(N) Standing Instructions.
The initial contract duration is three years, with the possibility of extension based on organisational needs and individual performance.
