CREASION Vacancy Announcement for Program Officer
Vacancy Announcement:
CREASION has been around since 2005. We started small, we got loud, and over the last two decades we have grown into one of Nepal’s most committed organizations working on circular economy, plastic waste, climate action, and youth empowerment.
Today, we collect roughly 500 tonnes of plastic every month. We work shoulder to shoulder with more than 4,500 informal waste workers. We run Nepal’s largest private PET recycling enterprise. We sit at policy tables with concerned government line ministries, and we partner with various bilateral and multilateral donors, international foundations, and academic institutions working on plastic, climate, and circular economy.
None of that work happens without Program Officers who can actually run things on the ground. Planning, coordinating, showing up, troubleshooting, and reporting. That is the role we are hiring for.
If that sounds like the kind of work you want to do, keep reading.
Job Title: Program Officer
Reports to: Program Manager
Work Station: Kathmandu, with frequent field travel to project sites across Bagmati, Madhesh, Lumbini, and other provinces
Duration: One year, renewable based on performance and project continuity
What you will actually do:
Forget the vague job description language. Here is the honest version.
- Run the day to day implementation of assigned project activities. Workshops, community events, field visits, trainings, consultations, you will plan them, coordinate them, and make sure they actually happen.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with municipalities, ward offices, schools, waste worker groups, women’s groups, SMEs, youth networks, and consortium partners.
- Support the Program Manager with proposal writing, logframe development, concept notes, an donor communications when needed.
- Draft monthly, quarterly, and annual progress reports that are clean, accurate, and submitted on time. No last minute scrambles.
- Track project indicators. Collect the right data, keep it organized, and flag issues early rather than at the end of the reporting cycle.
- Manage procurement, logistics, and vendor coordination for project activities in line with Creasion’s and the donor’s procedures.
- Represent Creasion in coordination meetings at municipal, provincial, and national levels when asked, and carry yourself professionally in those spaces.
- Work closely with the Training and Capacity Development Officer, Communications team, Finance team, and field coordinators to deliver integrated project outputs.
- Document lessons learned, success stories, case studies, and photographs from the field in a way that can be used across reports, social media, and advocacy.
- Be ready to pivot. Plans change, floods happen, ministries shift focus. A good Program Officer adjusts without drama.
Who are we looking for?
You will fit here if:
- You have a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s a plus) in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Development Studies, Social Work, Public Policy, Management, or a related field.
- You have 2 to 4 years of experience in project implementation, preferably with an NGO, INGO, or development consulting organization.
- You genuinely care about the environment, the circular economy, and plastic pollution in Nepal. You are not in this sector because you could not find something else.
- You can organize a workshop, manage a training venue, handle participant lists, and still show up to the opening in a good mood.
- You write clearly in English and Nepali. Regional languages (Maithili, Bhojpuri, Awadhi, Tharu) are a real advantage.
- You are comfortable in Excel, Word, and at least one common project management tool. You can build a workplan that someone else can follow without asking you three questions a day.
- You can travel to the field at short notice. You are comfortable staying in project areas, working with local partners, and eating what is served.
- You have integrity. You submit honest timesheets, you do not inflate attendance numbers, and you report problems rather than hiding them.
- You take initiative. When something needs doing, you do it or you flag it, not both later.
You will not fit here if:
- You want a desk job where everything comes to you in writing.
- You see field travel as a burden rather than the most interesting part of the work.
- You need someone to tell you exactly what to do every morning.
- You are more focused on the title than the actual work.
What we offer:
- A salary in line with Nepal’s NGO sector, negotiable based on your experience.
- A front row seat in one of Nepal’s most active circular economy organizations.
- Hands on exposure to project cycles, donor management, government coordination, and private sector partnerships.
- A team that argues hard, laughs harder, and actually likes coming to work.
- A clear path to grow. Program Officers who perform well at Creasion go on to bigger roles, whether here or elsewhere.
